policy and development
Urban Transport Infrastructure
2009
I
formed part of a team researching what makes big
urban transport projects succeed or fail, in their
project development, planning, procurement and
delivery. The report was commissioned by KPMG as a
‘think-piece’, and can be read here.
Treasurehouse and Powerhouse
2009
Working
with Tony Travers from LSE, I prepared a report
assessing the social and economic impact of the
Natural History Museum, addressing tourism,
international debate, internet and media presence, as
well as operational comparisons with domestic and
international peers. The report is
here.
Urban Age advisor
2009
Since
early 2008, I have been an advisor to the LSE's Urban
Age programme, an interdisciplinary international
conference on urban development. Specific commissions
have included preparing policy papers on
public private
partnerships,
and writing the Urban Age India
and
Urban Age South America summary reports.
Future Waltham Forest
2008
Working
with Jonathan Rosenberg, I prepared a spatial
strategy for this borough, proposing ideas for how it
could improve its public realm, make the most of its
housing stock, and overcome the barrier posed by the
Lea Valley. You can download the draft report
here.
A Life's Work
1999
I
designed and led this two-year research project on
economic regeneration for the Audit Commission, and
wrote the final report.
Urban policy advice
2006
I
helped Communities and Local Government, the
government department leading on urban policy, to
prepare a progress report on urban renaissance, and a
response to other recent assessments.
London Plan and sub-regions
2007
I
assisted CLP, a public-private partnership comprising
central London areas, in responding to the further
alterations to the London Plan, and considering ways
that the organisation could adapt to the proposed
changes (now adopted) for re-arranging London's
sub-regional structure.
London Housing Strategy
2007
I
wrote the investment plan section of this document,
setting out how the Mayor of London would use new
powers to commission the housing the London needs.
The draft is available for download
here.
Exhibition Road
2007
I
worked with Tony Travers of the London School of
Economics and Political Science to assess the
potential economic impact of this public realm
improvement project, and contributed survey data and
international case studies to a report for key
opinion-formers.
Royal Docks Management Authority
2008
I
have been working with RoDMA, who manage the Royal
Docks in east London, to develop a compendium of
organisational procedures, and to brief and select
consultants to help RoDMA to adapt to the rapid pace
of change within the Royal Docks
