GLA Transition (slight return)
2008
Following
Boris Johnson's election as Mayor of London in May
2008, I was asked to advise the Transition Team on
management arrangements and corporate structures for
the change in administration.
Urban Age advisor
2009
Since
early 2008, I have been an advisor to the LSE's Urban
Age programme, an interdisciplinary international
conference on urban development. Specific commissions
have included preparing policy papers on
public private
partnerships,
and writing the Urban Age India
and
Urban Age South America summary reports.
Representing the people
1996
I
undertook fieldwork and contributed to drafting this
‘management paper’ on the role of councillors in
local government.
GLA Transition
2000
Working
as part of a small team, I set up the Mayor’s Office
(systems, relationships etc) and was retained to work
there for the year following Ken Livingstone’s
election.
London Riverside Urban Strategy
2002
I
developed policy options for and wrote
this joint
planning framework, which brought the plans for
Barking Reach together with a strategy for change
in the surrounding areas.
Thames Gateway Development Framework
2004
I
led the development of a partnership between central,
regional and local government, and wrote
this strategy
(London
Thames Gateway Development and Investment
Framework,
to give it its proper title) for phasing and
managing new development in East London.
London 2012 Transition
2005
I
led a small team, setting up transitional and
long-term arrangements for the establishment of
London 2012, including accommodation search,
appointment of headhunters, and development of
interim funding and accountability mechanisms.
Have your say
2006
While
working at the ODA, I led a programme of local
cnsultation on planning applications. I managed the
consultants, helped them to write content and
participated in public meetings.
London Plan and sub-regions
2007
I
assisted CLP, a public-private partnership comprising
central London areas, in responding to the further
alterations to the London Plan, and considering ways
that the organisation could adapt to the proposed
changes (now adopted) for re-arranging London's
sub-regional structure.
High Street 2012
2007
Working
jointly for the London boroughs of Tower Hamlets and
Newham, I developed a vision and a prospectus
proposing ways of upgrading the A11, which links
central London to London's Olympic Park, so that the
2012 Games could make a real difference to the lives
of east London residents. My draft prospectus
is here.
Urban design consultants are now being
commissioned to take the vision forward.
Royal Docks Management Authority
2008
I
have been working with RoDMA, who manage the Royal
Docks in east London, to develop a compendium of
organisational procedures, and to brief and select
consultants to help RoDMA to adapt to the rapid pace
of change within the Royal Docks
After the Games/Legacy Now
2008
I
worked with regional and local government to agree
the process for master-planning the legacy of
London’s Olympic Park, advised on the brief for a
masterplanning team, and prepared the
Legacy Now document
to set out partners' agreed vision. The document can
be downloaded (in three pieces) from the LDA's legacy
website here.
